Today I want to talk about the common investing mistakes I’ve made, but also the benefits to buying online courses.
I’m a little bit of an impulse buyer. I get it. We’re all tempted by the shiny objects, especially in the age of TikTok trends and impulse buying.
And especially if it’s a lower ticket price, I’m like, “Oh, what the heck? I’ll buy it”. Been there, done that. But here’s the real deal – before you hit that “buy now” button, do your research.
Trust me, decision paralysis is a real thing, but so is falling for the fluff. I’ve made some not-so-great investments that I’m still paying for. I kind of regret it.
The issue out there is that there’s some stuff out there that is really good. But then there’s some things that you’re going to want to buy, but that are actually fluff.
The struggle is real when buying online courses and they turn out to be more fluff than substance. I wanted to learn more about marketing for my business, and the problem was there were a lot of people saying that they were going to cover this topic within their course/masterclass.
But once I took it, it was just a lot of general things that I already knew (fluff).
I kept encountering the fact that I would invest in courses/resources with information/strategies that I was already doing or I already knew. Or the courses did not have much substance to it.
It took a while for me to finally find something that dove into what I actually needed to know and got to the root of my problem. Not just this general information that I already knew from google.
A friendly tip – be cautious, do your homework, because there’s a lot of fluff out there, and we’re not here for that.
The problem that I kept encountering was the topic that I wanted to learn more about, which was marketing and my business.
Recently, I took the plunge and invested in a design course I’ve been keeping my eye on for awhile. Yeah, it was a big step, and yeah, it was expensive. I had those “what if” fears.
I’ve been following these girls on Instagram for a long time, attending their workshops and spending a little bit of money here and there on the smaller workshops, but fearing making the higher ticket investment with them.
And it was what was in the back of my mind that I really wanted to make the investment, but I’m also scared to make the bigger investment because of the fear that there are people out there that do sell things and it’s just fluff and it does not help you.
But you know what? No regrets. It’s opened doors and potential in myself that I didn’t even know existed, and I’m gearing up to make that investment pay off big time.
So sometimes you’re going to come across an investment that you do need and it is scary.
But sometimes you need to face the fear and make the move, it’s an investment in yourself and your business.
I’m going to make that money back plus more just with what I’m learning and that’s what a lot of investments help you to do.
Now, here’s a story for you. I had a client who wanted to level up her branding and website. She was excited about everything, but hesitated because she thought she needed to make more money first. Sound familiar?
That’s exactly what I was thinking before I invested in that expensive course. I need to make some more money so that I’m comfortable enough to spend that big investment on this course.
Sometimes, the very investments we delay are the ones that would move us forward.
It’s kind of contradictory because this course is what’s gonna help me to make more money, but I’m waiting to make more money before I buy the course. It’s confusing because it sounds just a little contradictory, right?
BUT, Don’t wait to invest in your business until you’re rolling in cash. Sometimes, the very investments we delay are the ones that would move us forward.
Let’s talk about going the cheap route and DIY-ing everything.
Sure, it’s okay for some things, but if you’re constantly seeking out the cheapest route but you want people to invest in you, then why can’t you invest in yourself?
If you want clients to believe in your top-notch service, you’ve got to invest in your business too.
Practice what you preach, right?
If you want that credit card handed over to you, show that you’re willing to do the same for your business. As much as it’s scary, as much as we don’t want to, it’s honestly what we have to do.
Just like the term, you gotta spend money to make money, I think that that is definitely true.
Here’s a reality check: sometimes, you don’t need to keep shelling out money.
You need to just do it.
You need to take action.
I’ve been down the rabbit hole of consuming content, thinking I’m learning, only to find myself drowning in information. Sound familiar?
Sometimes, you need to hit pause, apply what you’ve learned, and see if it works before throwing more money at it.
If you’ve been trying something for a while and it’s not working, then yes, it might be time to pivot and learn a different strategy for achieving that goal.
But if you’re always consuming and investing, but never applying it, it’s not ever going to help your business grow.
I’ve been through the same struggles with my business, and I’m far from perfect. But I’m here to share the truths about investing in your business because you’re not alone.
If you’re feeling the weight of these decisions, take a deep breath. We’ve all been there, and I’m here to help you navigate the journey of investing in yourself and your business.
Stay empowered, stay ambitious, and remember – you’ve got this! 💪✨
